We don’t need no education
We don’t need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it’s just another brick in the wall.
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall.

Once a place of higher learning, Croydon TAFE College closed in 2014.  The college provided education to students in subjects such as photography, design, child care and automotive studies.  This college became a casualty to the State Government’s grand plan for bigger campuses with closer ties to related industries.  The courses offered were divided up among other campuses – meaning students either traveled for their chosen field of study or dropped out altogether.  Your tax dollar at work.

A professors desktop adorned with the trophies and trinkets of yesterday.  Student records piled into a workshop corner.  Endless corridors and empty classrooms.  The majority of contents were either auctioned off, stolen or vandalised.   There’s always something special about being alone in a space which once buzzed with the energy of thousands of people.  That strange sense that perhaps this is what a post-apocalyptic world would feel like.

The majority of the site is now demolished.  I am yet to ascertain what the future land use will be.

    I did my automotive training there worked on building the shrike racecar and then later lectured automotive there.
    Cannot believe the waste but life moves on.

  2. I too attended the School of Graphic Arts here in the 70s…… It I should sad it has closed I was there when it opened….. Progress I guess?

  3. This is the place that have me the education for the career of my life. It saddens me to see the state of this campus. If it wasn’t for this specialised site dedicated to the arts I would not be where I am today. Such a shame.

  4. I attended there in 2009 for desktop publishing & digital photography where state of the art equipment could be seen in class rooms and student art adorned the corridor walls, such a shame that it had to close!

  5. We actually ran an alternative learning centre at this site and were the last to leave when it closed. We were told the site was going to be used for affordable high density housing…. Be interesting to see if this goes ahead.
